December 3rd is International Day of People with Disabilities, and More Than Walking is teaming up with AbleThrive in an international campaign called #ThriveWorldwide to celebrate living life to the fullest, with over 43 meet-ups in more than 17 countries. Join More Than Walking and event sponsors B:Hive Coworking, Artist & Craftsman Supply, and Leisha's Bakeria for a FREE Paint & Coffee Hour from 4-6 pm at 7 Lafayette Cir, Bridgeport, CT. Participants can enjoy baked goods and hot drinks while collaborating on pieces of a watercolor mural that will illustrate the path people with disabilities take to pursue independence. The finished mural will be professionally photographed and shared across More Than Walking's Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, with high-resolution digital copies sent to participants. What kind of impact can our collective work of art have? 500,000 people suffer a spinal cord injury every year. Most lose the ability to walk, control bowel & bladder, and engage with society. What they often gain is crushing social stigma, financial hardship, dependency, and depression. As internet access and smartphone usage abound globally, social media is often the first place people with disabilities and their families search for community and support. Your artistic representation of experiences, as an inherently disabled and limited human being, can help share hope and perspective to others going through dark times. More Than Walking's mission is to share the path to independent living after spinal cord injury worldwide through film, but with your help, we can dabble in some paint as well! Comments are closed.
